Dorset Police are trying to identify a body found in the sea off the Dorset coast.

Swanage Lifeboat was launched yesterday after a motorboat spotted what they thought was a person in the water.

The casualty was taken back to the lifeboat station and pronounced dead by paramedics.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “At 12.54pm on Thursday 23 May 2019 Dorset Police received a report from HM Coastguard that a vessel had discovered a body in the sea off the coast of Swanage.

“The body has been recovered and enquiries are underway to establish the identity of the body and the circumstances of the death.”
