Portland Port tackles plastic pollution

Employees at the port and marina have been involved in a clean-up of the breakwater.

So far, 20 bulk bags of plastic and litter have been removed.

General manager Ian McQuade said:

“Like last year it was again shocking to see just how much waste plastics have washed onto this area of the breakwater. This clean-up feels as if we have at least made a small contribution to trying to reduce the threat to our marine life and the environment.”

Some of the objects found will be used in sculptures as part of an Arts by the Sea week on Portland.

The Wombling Sculpture Workshop will be showcased today, run by Athay Studio and Gallery.
