Two kayakers were stranded for four hours near the White Nothe at Ringstead Bay after becoming trapped due to strong winds and high seas.

Coastguards pulled the pair to safety by rope after rescue by water was deemed too risky due to the sea state.

The casualties were around 200 meters down the cliff on the beach below.

When it was discovered they had no footwear, it was decided that cliff extraction would be dangerous over the loose rocks and dense undergrowth.

A a second rope rescue setup was then constructed and a technician sent down with spare footwear to allow safe recovery.

The rescue operation involved Wyke, Lulworth, Kimmeridge and St Alban coastguard teams, as well as Weymouth lifeboat.
