New LED lighting strips are being fixed to lamp posts along the Esplanade to bring a little light to the seafront.

Engineers will start installing the lighting today, which can be computer controlled and changed based on the time of year, festivities and the desires of the local community.

Planning was approved for the scheme in December 2018, but it was delayed while councillors tried to get a good deal from a contractor.

Cllr Ray Bryan said:

"Following a lengthy consultation period, we are delighted that installation is due to start on the new lighting scheme. We've taken the community's opinions and concerns into consideration and are confident that the new design will transform Weymouth Promenade".
