Peter proves its never too late to go for gold

A 75-year-old veteran athlete from Weymouth has proved age is no barrier when it comes to competing on the world stage.

Peter Clarke won a gold medal and set a world record at the World Icosathlon Championships in Helsinki.

The Icosathlon is an event which involves completing in 20 events ranging from 100m to 10000m on the track, to shot put and pole vault in the field.

These events are scheduled over two gruelling days. 

Peter is the club President of Weymouth St Paul's Harriers and Athletics Club and has been a local coach for over 50 years.

Club Coaching Coordinator Tracy Moore said:

"Pete is an inspiration to us all. 

"This event is as much of a test of one's mental stamina as well as physical endurance. He never fails to impress us."
