Arrest following assault of emergency worker in Weymouth

It's alleged a man assaulted a Community Safety Accredited Scheme officer (CSAS).

Police received reports of a drunk man, 58 and from Dorchester, causing issues on the Esplanade around 1:30pm today. 

Two CSAS officers spotted the man and tried talking with him. During the conversation it's alleged the man assaulted one of the officers.

He was then followed to Weymouth Train station where he boarded a train. 

A Weymouth and Portland Police spokesperson said: 

"The 58 year old male from Dorchester was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assaulting the CSAS officer. 

"He was then further arrested on suspicion of assaulting an emergency worker. 

"The male remains in custody."
