41 mile diversion for 65ft of roadworks in Godmanstone

If you need to travel through Godmanstone from Monday, get ready to make a 41 mile detour.

The long diversion is due to roadworks - which only last for a 65ft stretch.

Dorset Council says by law they have to divert traffic along the nearest A road - and in this case it's just happens to be a very long one.

They also say they known locals will likely choose not to follow the diversion.

A Dorset Council spokesperson said:

"The closure has been requested to allow Dorset Drainage Services to make a sewer connection within the highway.

"The official diversion has to be suitable for the type of traffic that would normally use the closed section.

"This is an A road so we have used other A roads for the diversion. Smaller local traffic will undoubtedly use lower classified roads to bypass the closure."
