Flood alerts issued for Dorset this weekend

A large tidal surge is expected to hit parts of Dorset, topping sea defences tomorrow morning.

Flood alerts are in place across Dorset's shores this weekend as a high water is forecast for 05:45 tomorrow morning. 

According to the government, red: Flood Warning - immediate action required, orange: Flood alert - be prepared

 

Weymouth's currently under a flood alert and we're being asked to prepare for possible disruption. Heavy rain recently flooded large parts of the town 

West Bay getting a chance to test out it's newly improved flood defences, which were recently finished.

Lyme Regis is currently under a flood warning with large waves expected at for two hours either side of high tide (5:45am).

We're also being warned to prepare for floods across the rest of Dorset's coast.

For red areas, the government recommends:

  • turn off gas, water and electricity
  • move things upstairs or to safety
  • move family, pets and car to safety

For orange areas, they recommend:

  • prepare a bag that includes medicines and insurance documents
  • check flood warnings
