Here's where you can celebrate Remembrance Sunday (10th November).

Services are being held across the county on Sunday, including:

Weymouth Seafront:

  • Service and two minute's silence at the Cenotaph at 10:55am.
  • Wreath-laying by Weymouth Mayor Cllr Graham Winter, Armed Forces representatives and local groups
  • Parade will march to the American war memorial 
  • A seafront road closure will be place from 10 am to 12.30 pm and local diversions will be in place. 
  • There will also be Royal British Legion Remembrance Service at Holy Trinity Church on Sunday 10 November at 6:30pm

Dorchester town Remembrance procession

  • Gather at 10.15am, North Square before marching to the war memorial at the junction of South Walks Road and South Street.
  • The Durnovaria Silver Band will play music at 10.30am 
  • Wreath-laying service led by the Rev Claire McClelland will take place at around 10.55am
  • The parade will then march down Trinity Street. There will also be an Act of Remembrance at the German War Memorial at 12.30pm.
Poppy Field

Brewery Square, Dorchester - Purple Poppy Celebration, 3pm 

  • Being held to honour the eight million horses and one million dogs who served in World War I
  • We're being encouraged to bring our dogs along
  • Purple poppies have been knitted by volunteers to help raise money for local charity TheHorseCourse

  • Parade with the Wessex Military Band, from East Street 10.40am 
  • Wreath-laying with the Mayor and two minute silence at the War Memorial
  • This will be followed by a church Service at St Mary's Church
  • Or alternative secular time of reflection on Bucky Doo Square, or the Town Hall if wet
  • Town Centre road closures will be in place for the parade from 10.30am until 1.00pm. Local residents and visitors to the town centre are asked not to park in the vicinity of St Mary's Church after 8.00am on the morning of 10 November.
