Under 35? Work in Dorchester? Fancy a new flat?

Under 35's who work in Dorchester could land themselves with a brand new flat.

A planning application's now been submitted to build on the old tennis courts.

It's for 19 affordable one bed flats to rent.

The idea has been pushed forward by the Dorchester Area Community Land Trust, and is the result of many hours of work by the DACLT directors (all volunteers), the architects (Reed Watts), the builders (Places for People based in Poundbury) and many others.

The building itself has been designed with attention being paid to sustainability and an environmental strategy which includes the use of sustainable materials.

The DACLT said:

"A great deal of time and effort has gone into making the design of the final building and its landscaping as sympathetic as possible.

"The landscaping on the site will blend in with the Borough Gardens on the other side of West Walks.

"We would like to thank Homes England and the former West Dorset District Council for giving us grants to reach this point and, of course, Dorchester Town Council for both its continued support and for providing the site at much less than its full market value.

"Clearly the sooner planning permission is granted, the sooner the work can begin and the DACLT can move on to its next project.  With this in mind we continue to look for suitable sites and parcels of land of any size in or around the town which could be developed."
