Small Business Saturday campaigners brought their tour to New Bond Street to encourage shoppers to buy local this Christmas.

Small Business Saturday UK is a not-for-profit national campaign which is aimed at inspiring and supporting the UK's 5.6 million small businesses.

It's aimed at getting more of us to shop local.

The event is being held on Saturday 7th December.

Campaign spokesperson Amber Bush said:

"That's when shoppers typically spend the most money in the run up to Christmas.

"It's the 7th this year, and we say to shoppers 'Just spend it on a small business, rather than your big brands."

A 40-ft long bus parked up in New Bond Street yesterday morning to promote the event.

Alex Smith from Nettl in Weymouth who design websites said:

"It's all to do with creating a sustainable economy in the local area.

"Quite often, the big giants come in and the do provide employment opportunities but a lot of that money is fed back into big corporate companies and the money's taken out of Dorset.

"Ultimately, supporting small business and independent retail shops is great for the local economy and providing employment opportunities and it just keeps the money in Dorset."
