Radipole Lake is among areas at risk.

UPDATE: Flood alerts have now been issued for Weymouth, Castletown and Preston Beach with high tides and strong winds.

Flood alerts and warnings have been issued across Dorset with more heavy rainfall predicted for tonight.

River levels have risen at the Broadwey river gauge as a result, along with other areas. It's thought this could lead to flooding along the River Wey to Radipole Lake.

Flood warnings have also been issued for the South Winterbourne Valley and the Upper Frome river.

For red areas where a flood warning is active, the ESA recommends:

  • turn off gas, water and electricity
  • move things upstairs or to safety
  • move family, pets and car to safety

For orange areas where a flood alert is active they recommend:

  • prepare a bag that includes medicines and insurance documents
  • check flood warnings

An ESA spokesperson said:

"River levels can rise very quickly in response to heavy rainfall. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are checking defences"
