Don't let fire ruin festive cheer this Christmas

We're being reminded not to let the risk of house-fires ruin our Christmas.

Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service is warning that Christmas can pose a higher risk of home fires.

They're joining the national Fire Kills campaign in urging us to put fire safety at the top of our Christmas lists this year.

They've released this video that shows how a Christmas tree can destroy a room in less than a minute:

Top tips from DWFRS

  • Place candles in suitable holders and away from curtains
  • Never leave cooking unattended
  • Ensure you have working smoke alarms installed on all levels of your home
  • Always turn off fairy lights before leaving the house
  • Never use heaters to dry clothes
  • Don’t overload sockets.

Make sure that everyone in your home knows what to do in a fire – in the event of fire you should get out, stay out and call 999.
