Emergency teams put on standby over fears of flooding

Emergency services and rescue teams were put on standby last night after concerns of flooding at Chiswell on Portland.

Powerful waves were expected to over top sea defences during high tide in the early hours.

Wyke Coastguard Rescue Team were called to help Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team, the Environment Agency and Weymouth and Portland Police.

There were concerns over the safety of people who were watching the waves.

They were moved on.

There were also dangerous driving conditions due to shingle being thrown by waves and strong winds onto Portland Beach Road.
