New support group launches for young girls in Dorchester

A new weekly support group for girls is starting in Dorchester.

"Fearlessly You," will meet weekly at The Breathing Space, Brewery Square and is for girls aged 12-17.

The first meeting is being held tomorrow (Wednesday 5th February).

The group has been started by Tracy Kimberg.

She's a Family Therapist at Re-exist in Dorchester and also has three daughters.

Tracy told Wessex FM:

"When a human being experiences trauma or severe life stressors, it is not uncommon for their lives to unravel.

"My greatest passion is to bring healing to people who have been through a traumatic/stressful experience."

Raising three daughters made Tracy realise the desperate need for immediate support for young teenage girls and boys in the local area.

As a parent, she found that finding immediate help when your child is in an emotional crisis, is not only costly, but difficult, with long waiting lists often taking time to process.

This motivated her to start "Fearlessly You."

Tracy hopes to start a similar group for boys in the near future, and believes that mental well-being affects everyone.

She said:

"If you are a human being, you have mental health.

"Mental health problems affect one in four of us, yet too many people are made to feel isolated, ashamed and worthless because of this."

Tracy hopes to encourage everyone to be more open about mental health – to be aware, to talk, to listen, to get help and to change lives.

"We know that talking about mental health can feel awkward, but it doesn't have to.

"Those days are over."
