People in Bridport will be able to get their first detailed look tonight at plans for a new village on the outskirts of the town.

The public exhibition at Bridport Town Hall will also allow people to express their views.

The Watton Village Development will create 200 sustainable timber homes, which will be energy efficient.

The plans also include planting 5,000 trees.

Smarter Community Projects will be revealing the plans for the new Watton village.

Vince Adams is the Project director. He told Wessex FM:

"This is a community inspired development created by a not-for-profit team who above all want it to benefit the people of Bridport.

"We have spent a lot of time speaking to Dorset council who are very supportive.

"The Project is not for profit, we don't expect to get any money from this project, we aren't even taking expenses.

"It's life changing, we have 500 plus people on the housing register in Bridport.

"A huge number for such a small community."

Vince Adams also explain why the development is being described as an 'eco-village.'

He said:

"We are building the house put of wood. The houses are energy positive, the whole thing is very eco, we've got water reclamation, cycle ways, path ways. It will be built on an eco basis.

"That eco basis is not only good for the climate but good for the people. They will be able to get their energy at very low cost.

"The total energy we expect to make on the roofs will be about 50, 60% more than the household will use, that will create revenue."

  • There will be an opening introduction from former Bridport Mayor, Rose Kayes. The three project directors will then give a short presentation revealing their vision for the Smart Community affordable housing for Bridport.

The exhibition will be open at the following times:
  • Friday 14th February 5-9pm
  • Saturday 15th February 10am-4pm
  • Sunday 16th February 10am-4pm
