You can make your views known on Chickerell's draft neighbourhood plan tonight Willowbed Hall.

Drop in consultations are taking place today, Friday 14th February from 6pm - 7:30pm and Saturday 15th February 10am - 12pm at Willowbed Hall.

The document prepared by local councillors and residents will help determine future planning applications and includes the protection of wildlife.

The plan's objectives include:

  • Increased protection of the landscape and wildlife.
  • A bigger range of facilities including a proposed health centre, planned second primary school, more retail, sport & play facilities and more readily accessible green spaces.
  • To identify locations where new housing may be built.
  • To ensure future development does not compromise the natural and built environment.
  • The meet the housing needs of a diverse range of people wishing to live in the area.
  • To reduce the impacts of climate change, particularly flooding.

'Next Steps'

Once the consultation has been looked at and any changes have been made, the plan will be surveyed by an independent inspector appointed by Dorset council.

If the council finds the plan meets the basic conditions set out by legislation, then residents will be offered a referendum on whether the plan should be used.

Hard copies of the plan can be viewed at Chickerell Town Council, Willowbed Hall and Chickerell Community Library.
