Storm warning as dog swept to sea near Bridport

A dog's been swept out to sea on Cogden Beach, sparking a warning from the Coastguard.

West Bay Coastguard were called to reports that someone's dog was swept into the sea yesterday at 1:07pm during a walk on Cogden Beach.

Unfortunately, the coastguard were unable to rescue the dog.

A spokesperson for West Bay Coastguard said:

"Tragically, the dog remains lost at sea and our heartfelt thoughts are with the dogs owner.

"We are currently in-between storm systems, but the sea state remains rough with large swells and powerful breaking waves.

"With Storm Dennis rapidly approaching, we implore everyone to keep themselves, their pets. and their loved ones safe over the coming days."
