Held at the Palm House in Weymouth, the event will run today from 10:30am-2:30pm.

Run by the community, for the community, Repair Café Weymouth not only reduces waste but creates a place for people in Weymouth and Portland to come together to enjoy a cup of tea and share new skills that may otherwise be lost.

Its first event was held in May 2019 after Ros Dean suggested the Repair Café for Weymouth.

She has only lived Weymouth for two years but was overwhelmed by the support of the local residents.

Ros says:

"We have nearly 40 volunteers of which half are skilled repairers and half help with the visitors."

The Repair Café is usually held on the second Saturday of the month and runs for two hours - except for July and August.

"We had to change the date because the idea of The Big Fix 2020 is for Repair Cafes throughout the UK to break the record for the biggest number of items fixed in a single repair event."

"We hope that the people of Weymouth will show their support and bring along lots of broken household items to be fixed!"

"They can save an expensive repair costs or we can just give advice - everything from laptops, tablets, mobile phones, electricals and electronics, lamps, vacuum cleaners, mechanical items, gluing, toys, clocks, jewellery and sewing repairs!"

The Repair Café does not charge for repairs, but asks for a small donation towards their running costs.
