Improvements agreed for Portland Museum

Portland Museum has been given permission for repairs and renovations and to fit new windows to its more modern extension.

Dorset Council has agreed the Listed Building Consent for the Wakeham building, submitted by the Portland Museum Trust, which has a grant from the Coastal Revival Fund for the work.

In its application the Trust said that many of the existing windows are not capable of being opened, having been repeatedly painted over, with others in need of repair, including several with broken sash cords.

It says the work will improve the building’s carbon footprint and make the building more attractive and welcoming for visitors.

The museum hopes that the work can be completed during the winter shut-down ready for the 2020 season.
