Drivers warned to expect delays around North Quay

Wessex Water will be repairing sewers in the North Quay area of Weymouth during March.

Temporary traffic lights are in place at Harbour Junction while Wessex Water carry our sewer repairs.

North Quay will be closed to westbound traffic from Monday 9 March for two weeks while the repairs are carried out, with New Road also closed.

Wessex Water say the work is needed to prevent seawater entering the town's sewer network, and Wessex Water's team will be working extended hours and using the latest 'no-dig' technology to minimise disruption and complete the repairs as quickly as possible.

Work has been timed to avoid the peak holiday season and needs to be completed prior to July, when increased visitor numbers and 18-year high spring tides will increase pressure on the sewerage system.

Wessex Water's Julian Britton, who is coordinating the work, said:

"With tidal peaks rising and holiday season approaching, bringing a seasonal increase in sewage loading, we need to ensure our network is working at optimum performance.

"We will be working extended hours and this will involve some evening and overnight work, but every effort will be made to keep noise and disruption to a minimum.

"The closure of North Quay to westbound traffic is necessary for the safety of our team and the community. We're sorry for any inconvenience caused."
