Weymouth students to takeover local Indian restaurant

Tonight, students from Weymouth College have the chance to cook and serve in a local indian restaurant.

They'll be planning and cooking up the menu at the award winning 'Shalims Indian Restaurant' on Commercial road.

The takeover will introduce the students to specialised ingredients and techniques, and give them the experience of working in an Indian restaurant kitchen.

Shalim Abs and his team will help the students throughout the evening.

Shalim said:

"Over recent years my peers and I have found it increasingly difficult to find highly skilled chefs from inside or outside the UK

"Even with Home Secretary Priti Patel's introduction of the 'vindaloo visa' initiative this year, Indian restaurants are still struggling to find staff leading to a staggering number of closures each year across the United Kingdom.

"This collaboration with Weymouth College is about allowing the students to experience what it's like to work in an Indian restaurant kitchen and working together towards building a local home grown talent pool."

If you'd like to take part in the evening, go to the restaurant's website.
