Dorset town among UK's 'most charming'

A town in Dorset's been rated the 7th most charming in the country.

Weymouth's come in at number 7 in a poll on Big 7 Travel. 

Rye in Sussex came in first place followed by Castle Combe in the Cotswolds.

Only 3 towns in the South West appeared in the top 10 list, including Polperro, Cornwall and Shanklin, Isle of Wight.

How were the towns ranked?

Towns were ranked based on their 'charm factor' which inludes:

  • natural scenery
  • general friendliness of the community
  • food and drink scene
  • history and culture

"It is wonderful to be recognised for the things that we are most proud of and it is great that Weymouth is now seen as a town with not just  beautiful natural assets but also a fascinating heritage."
