More delays expected with road closure at North Quay

Get ready for more delays around North Quay in Weymouth.

From today North Quay will be closed to westbound traffic for two weeks.

It's to allow Wessex Water to carry out essential repairs to the sewer.

New Road will also be closed.

Temporary traffic lights have been in place at Harbour Junction for the last week.

Some drivers say they have been caught up in traffic delays in the area for more than an hour.

Wessex water have apologised for the inconvenience.

In a statement to Wessex FM, a spokesperson said:

"We're sorry for any delays people have experienced as a result of our work in the North Quay area.

"We are manually controlling the temporary traffic lights to maintain traffic flow and our team is working extended hours to complete these essential repairs as quickly as possible.

"We thank the local community for their patience during our work and again apologise for any inconvenience caused."

'Why is the work being carried out?'

The work is needed to prevent seawater from entering the town's sewer network.

Tidal peaks and the holiday season will bring a seasonal increase in sewage loading.

Wessex Water say they need to make sure the "network is working at optimum performance."
