A student at Bournemouth University has tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).

The student self-isolated after they came into contact with the virus through someone else based in the UK, not at the university.

A spokesperson for Bournemouth University said:

"Public Health England has advised that the risk to our students, staff and visitors remains low. The university remains open and continues to operate normally. We will continue to work with partners to ensure our response is aligned to national advice and guidance.

"We are grateful that the student took proactive steps to limit contamination and we are working closely with PHE, doing all we can to follow advice and support containment efforts.

"We have been planning for instances of outbreak since January and are confident we are well prepared, and our first priority is to continue to support the student and anyone else who may feel concerned as a result of this news."

The Chief Medical Officer confirmed today that the total of people who've tested positive for COVID-19 in Dorset has risen to three.

Nationally, the number of cases rose to 319, 46 more than yesterday.
