A competition will be held at the Boot Inn to find Weymouth's new town crier.

Oyez! Oyez! The hunt's on to find a new town crier for Weymouth.

Candidates will be competing for the role next month at The Old Town Hall and The Boot.

The winner will be judged by a panel of other Dorset Town Criers and Councillors and locals are encouraged to come and watch too.

Claudia Webb, COO of Weymouth BID says:

"Town Criers are important because they use a variety of techniques to ensure as many people as possible hear, understand and remember what they are crying about.

"Variants on these same techniques are the bedrock of marketing. By watching a town crier in action, we can still learn a thing or two about getting the message across."

Weymouth's been without a town crier for a number of years and the town BID want to see the role return.

They're welcoming all applicants with a clear and loud voice, and a passion for Weymouth to apply via their website:

Once the winner is crowned, they'll be dubbed with the traditional town crier outfit, which has been designed to represent the colours of Weymouth Town Council.

Residents will get a taste of what's to come at 12pm on 4th April when Wimborne's Town Crier, Chris Brown will be whipping up some excitement in the town centre.

The event's taking place at The Old Town Hall and The Boot, with celebrations afterwards and a temporary beer on tap named 'The Town Crier'.
