Bridport hospital's planning application for solar panels has been rejected by Dorset Council.

Bridport Hospital has been told it will have to go through the planning process to fit solar roof panels.

It had asked Dorset Council planners for what is known as permitted development rights for the siting of panels capable of producing 100kw of power.

The process avoids having to apply for full consent but is limited to where it applies.

The council has rejected the application saying that the proposed panels on the south and south west roof do not comply with the permitted development rules.

It will mean the hospital having to now submit a full planning application.

The initial application said the panels will be positioned, where possible, to minimise the effect on the external appearance of the North Allington building with the panel frames coated in a matt finish to reduce reflection on four roof areas on the main block of the building.
