Firefighters from across Dorset have been called to an industrial unit in Stalbridge.

The fire happened at Gibbs Marsh Trading Estate.

A spokesperson from Maiden Newton Fire Station said:

"Crews worked hard in difficult conditions to bring the fire under control and protected all neighbouring buildings from becoming involved.

"Unfortunately the main factory where the fire started was completely destroyed."

The blaze is being described as 'significant'.

At the height of the fire 12 appliances were at the scene.

A large plume of smoke has been created and anyone in the area is being advised to keep their windows closed.

Crews from Sturminster Newton, Sherborne, Gillingham, Shaftesbury, Blandford, Tisbury, and Maiden Newton are in attendance.

Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue Service are attended the incident.

A spokesman for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire & Rescue said:

"There are no reported casualties, and crews are working hard to contain the fire to the one building and prevent any spread to adjacent property.

"There has been a lot of smoke rising from the fire, and we have been warning local people to keep doors and windows shut as a precaution, especially if they have pre-existing respiratory problems.

"A fire investigation will take place in due course."
