Wessex FM's James O'Neill is stuck in Tenerife which is currently on lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Spain declared a lockdown this weekend and people have been told to stay indoors. The only exception is to go to the supermarket or pharmacy.

James and his wife arrived in Los Cristianos on Friday and have been in lockdown ever since.

James said:

"We're only allowed out to go down to the local supermarkets.

"We nipped down there and it was pretty busy then. We were hearing stories later on in the day that the queue to get into the supermarket was across the street.

"We've been told that if we're seen out in the streets then the police will pick us up, bring us back to the hotel the first time then if it happens again we'll get arrested.

"It's just a really weird atmosphere. Everyone's just on their phone the whole time checking the latest.

It comes as airlines announce plans to slash their fleets - many by up to 75 percent.

James said:

"We actually tried to book an earlier flight because we thought that we would rather get home if we possiby could; all the flights are full.

"We're due to fly back with RyanAir on Friday and at the moment that flight is still scheduled. But obviously with everything that's going on there's a realy element of doubt that that's going to happen."

"People joke about there being worse places to be stuck but in all honesty it's quite stressful being in a lockdown situation and not knowing if you're going to get home when you should"
