Weymouth Half Marathon is the latest sporting fixture to be affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

Organisers have now decided to postpone the event, which was due to take place this weekend.

It comes after the government's recommendation of social distancing and non-essential travel.

It's instead been rescheduled for the 6th September.

A statement issued to participants by Just Racing UK said:

"The team are really disappointed as they have been working hard to ensure we were able to deliver a great event on what would have been the biggest Weymouth Half Marathon to date."

Entrants will automatically be transferred to the new date unless they contact organisers to say they are unable to participate.

Just Racing UK are also offering an alternative.

"If you are unable to participate on the new date we are offering a virtual alternative whereby you run 13.1 miles, as a single session before Monday 6th April 2020.

"This can be done wherever you are in the world, just provide us with evidence of the run (Strava, Garmin, Apple Health etc.) and we will send you a 2020 Weymouth Half Marathon Finishers medal and buff."
