Shire Hall in Dorchester has announced its temporary closure during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Dorchester's Courthouse Museum will be closed to the public for the forseeable future.

All of their events have been postponed too.

The museum says it's after the government's advice to avoid social gathering places.

The situation will be kept under regular review and staff will keep customers up to date online.

A statement from the museum said:

"We take health and safety very seriously.

"The health and wellbeing of our staff, volunteers, visitors and friends is uppermost in our minds and so we have taken action to ensure they are as safe as possible.

"We thank everyone for their kind support during this time, we would not be taking this step if we didn't think it was essential and important to protect our team.

"We will keep the situation under review regularly, and we will keep everyone updated on social media and our website."
