Wyke Regis by-election now postponed

Weymouth Town Council's by-election for the Wyke Regis Ward which was due to be held today (19th March) has now been postponed.

Dorset Council say there were contacted by the Cabinet Office last night and advised they were now able to delay the election due to the current coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.

In a statement to Wessex FM, Dorset Council said:

"The Returning Officer has decided that the priority must be to keep people safe and, acting in line with the national position, he has taken the decision to postpone the by-election tomorrow.

"We apologise to both the candidates and those hoping to vote in this by-election that this poll will no longer take place until further notice.

"When conditions improve and social distancing measures are lifted, we will provide further information on when this election will be rearranged.

"Thank you for your patience and understanding."
