Part of the Purbeck coastline was cordoned off.

Emergency services rushed to the shore near the Bull and Boat last night (Friday 20 March) after a walker spotted a piece of ordnance.

A bomb disposal team was called to the scene after it was found close to a wall.

The Royal Navy experts checked the item over but deemed it safe after confirming it was a military item.

Swanage Coastguard have thanked the team at the Bull and Boat who provided support during the incident.

They are advising anyone who finds a suspicious object on the beach to never remove or dig around it.

People are urged to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard instead.
