Dorset doctors launch urgent appeal

Dorset doctors launch urgent appeal

Published by Maria Greenwood at 8:23am 1st April 2020.

Doctors across Dorset are urging us to stay home and help them save as many lives as possible.

Their message is anyone can catch coronavirus, and anyone can spread it.

NHS services in Dorset are gearing up for the peak in the number of cases, but they say we can do our bit to give them time to prepare.

The appeal from doctors has been signed by 24 heads of NHS Trusts and Primary Care Networks across the county.

A spokesperson for Public Health Dorset said:

"We've been totally overwhelmed by the local support for the NHS and its staff - your support means so much. But we need your help further.

"We'd like to appeal to you personally to help your NHS frontline by staying at home. You can save lives.

"The evidence for social distancing is overwhelmingly strong - the more we all do it, the more lives we can save."

They are asking us to make sure we stick to the government guidelines to stay home unless we have a good reason to go out.

Those reasons include:

  • To shop for basic necessities
  • To pick up medicine or to provide care to those who need it
  • To exercise once a day
  • To go to work when you absolutely cannot work from home
