New dates have been announced for Dorset's Seafood Festival

Instead of taking place in July, the event is being moved to the 12th and 13th of September 2020.

Event organiser Nyetimber say it’s best for them to make a decision now rather than later.

It's hoped running the festival in September will help boost tourism for the county when it's needed most.

A spokesperson for Nyetimber said:

"With much uncertainty over the coming weeks and months, the organisers feel it’s best to make a decision now so that visitors and partners are able to concentrate fully on staying safe, and can begin preparing for a spectacular celebration of all things seafood later in the year.

"It is hoped that a September festival can play an important role in a much-needed comeback for the tourism industry in Weymouth (and indeed Dorset)."

Weymouth’s yearly Seafood Festival plays a big part in the town’s tourism bringing people from all over the UK to visit.

It’s held along the harbour side, with cooking demonstrations from national chefs and food stalls with responsibly sourced seafood.

They are continuing to raise funds the Fisherman’s Mission, a charity that supports fishermen and their families.
