The family and force of a Dorset Police Sergeant pay tribute.

The family of a serving officer have paid tribute saying he'll be 'sorely missed and will leave a huge gap in our lives'.

56 year old Ian Woodward died in Bournemouth following a period of illness.

Dorset Police had been working with HM Coroner and the NHS to establish whether he died as a result of COVID-19.

But a test for the virus has since come back negative.  The cause of death will now be a matter for Dorset's Coroner to consider.

Ian's family have issued this statement:

"Beyond doubt Ian was dedicated and committed to his job and his responsibilities as a police officer.

"He was truly loved and will forever be in our hearts and minds. He was taken well before his time.

"He will be sorely missed and will leave a huge gap in our lives, particularly those of his daughters whom he leaves behind."
