A 20 year old local was charged after allegedly licking his fingers and rubbing them onto a product in the Lidl store on St Andrews Road.

Police say it happened at around 2pm on Friday 3rd April, when a man went into the supermarket (seen above) wearing a face mask and gloves.

It was then that he allegedly lowered the face mask, licked his fingers, and touched a product.

Following enquiries, a 20-year-old local man was arrested and subsequently charged with an offence of contaminating or interfering with goods with intent under section 38 of the Public Order Act 1986.

He is next due to appear at Weymouth Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 6th May.

The police say he did not have a confirmed case of coronavirus and was not displaying symptoms.
