BMW driver crashes after police chase near Dorchester

The driver of a BMW’s been arrested after fleeing from police and hitting a lamp-post near the Stinsford Roundabout.

A 34-year-old man from Reading’s been arrested on suspicion of driving offences.

Dorset Police were called to a vehicle driving at excessive speeds on the A35 last night (23rd April) at 8:21 pm.

It’s reported the vehicle – a BMW – stopped for police on request but when officers got out of their vehicle the BMW made off at excessive speed.

The BMW was then involved in a collision on the Stinsford Roundabout, damaging a fence and lamp post. A helicopter was called in to search for the driver.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said:

“Following searches with the assistance of the NPAS police helicopter, officers located a man in a nearby river at 9.45 pm and detained him.

“The road was closed while Highways England attended to remove the lamp post, which was causing an obstruction.”

A 34-year-old man from Reading was arrested on suspicion of driving offences and is assisting officers with enquiries.
