A bank holiday weekend packed with events has raised £7,000 for Weldmar Hospicecare.

The weekend saw the return of events like the Dorset Knob Eating contest, Virtual Quayfest and others.

Kate Scott from Shaftesbury was crowned the Dorset Knob Eating Champion for 2020 after munching her way through eight and a half knobs in one minute.

Kate said:

"It was great fun. Just what we need at the moment. Eating eight and a half knobs was harder than I thought, but it was worth the effort to keep the trophy in Dorset.

"It was great to win and I'm looking forward to receiving the trophy and hopefully no more knobs until next year's competition."

The event was live-streamed on Facebook as 100 contestants went head to head for the title.

Virtual Quayfest returned to raise money for the charity too, live streaming 12 hours of live music.

Several Dorset musicians and singers performed live, which also featured a full band performance by the Leggomen, despite all members of the band being in different locations.

The weekend also featured the 'Big Fat Weymouth Quiz' and a six-hour Silent Disco and Danceathon. There was also a celebrity message from actor Martin Clunes, recorded at his home in Beaminster.

Martin Clunes delivered a special message from his Beaminster home.

Caroline Hamblett, Weldmar Hospicecare CEO, says,

"It was a really great weekend of entertainment, and we really appreciate the efforts of all of the organisers and participants in all of the events that took place to raise funds for us.

"The support from the local community has been humbling so far, but we need that support to carry on as we adapt to our plans to cope with the continuing social distancing restrictions that will still affect fundraising events, and our shops when they re-open."
