UPDATED: 150 firefighters tackle major blaze in Wareham Forest

Over 150 firefighters have been called to tackle a blaze in Wareham Forest.

Over 240 acres of heath and Woodland in Wareham Forest is on fire, crews are working hard to maintain it. 

Pylons in the forest are being affected by the blaze which may cause disruption to electricity supplies in the area.

Dorset & Wiltshire fire and rescue were called to the scene just after 12:20 this afternoon. 

It's located on Sugar Hill and is blowing smoke towards the Bournemouth and Poole areas.

The A35 has been closed both ways from Lower Woodbury, Wareham to Lower Woodbury.

There are 19 fire engines from Bere Regis, Wareham, Wimborne, two Christchurch, two Poole, Weymouth, Westbourne, Blandford, two from Dorchester, Swanage, Ferndown, Redhill Park, two from Sturminster Newton, Shaftesbury and Bridport; a Unimog from Wareham; water carriers from Poole, Christchurch, Bridport and Yeovil; Land Rover pumps from Poole, Hamworthy, Wimborne, Swanage, Ferndown, Blandford, Christchurch, Beaminster and Charmouth.

With support units from Hamworthy, Sherborne, and ferndown.

To tackle the fire, crews are using hose reel jets, main lines and beaters.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
