Weymouth's Wessex Folk Festival goes digital

Weymouth's Wessex Folk Festival is going virtual this weekend.

The event was due to be held this weekend on the Quayside but was cancelled due to Coronavirus.

Instead, they will be bringing you a "Virtual Festival" on their Facebook page.

From 10am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday, every hour, the page will have a different folk artist.

Every year thousands of people from across the country come to Weymouth to see top folk musicians and Morris dancers.

The event was cancelled back in back March by the management committee.

They made the following statement on Facebook:

"Following a meeting of the Management Committee on March 16, we have decided, with great regret, to cancel the 2020 Wessex Folk Festival. We are now less than 11 weeks away from the festival dates of May 30 and 31 and the Coronavirus pandemic has created a situation of such uncertainty that we feel that this is the only responsible course to take.

"The festival draws large numbers of people from all over the country - the musicians and dance sides, their friends and families, and the audiences who love the crowded harbourside, trade stalls, restaurants and pubs. The Government is rightly urging people to protect themselves by adopting a policy of social distancing and we believe that it is better to make a decision now and provide absolute clarity to all of our performers, stall holders, sponsors and the general public.

"We wish you all good health, and look forward to seeing you again in 2021."
