Over 70 firefighters battle blaze in Wareham Forest

Fire crews, including 75 firefighters, are currently on the scene in Wareham Forest.

12 fire engines were been called to Wareham Forest at 12:20 pm today to battle a new fire near Sugar Hill.

Sugar Hill has been closed and locals are being asked to keep doors and windows closed due to large amounts of smoke in the area.

The flame from has been extinguished but a considerable damping down operation lies ahead for firefighters, which is likely to take at least a day.

Forestry England staff are also on scene supporting firefighters but early indications are that the Site of Special Scientific Interest in unaffected at the moment.

A fire investigation will be carried out.

Bere Road is closed both ways from the A35 (Bere Regis) to Sandford Road (Wareham).
