Brittany Ferries are calling for clarity from the government on when they can resume their travel schedules.

The company are still aiming to restart their planned passenger schedules for the end of June, but they don’t have a confirmed date from the government.

CEO Christophe Mathieu said in a statement on Monday that he remains concerned over the 14-day quarantine rules by the UK government:

“In France last night the nation heard from president Macron. I am delighted that he announced cafes and restaurants can now re-open and the whole of mainland France has been designated a green zone.

“This is good news and a reassurance for visitors planning a holiday with us this summer. The European Commission has also recommended a re-opening of borders and I note that Spain has announced a date of 21 June for countries within the EU and Schengen territory.

“These are further positive signs that the end of the month may well enable us to begin a staggered resumption of passenger services. “

He says the travel rules put in place by the government seem completely unnecessary when the UK is gradually moving from lockdown back to a normal life:

“Everything is certainly moving in the right direction but I’m afraid we’re still not quite ready to reveal our final fleet plan… I hope we will be able to confirm schedules this week.

“The good news, I think, is that key summer holiday period will resemble what we are all used to, with shops, restaurants and cafes open. We should be confident of a brighter period to come this year when travel restrictions are lifted in all markets.

“Our schedules and capacities have to be modified to make them viable and compliant and this is adding incredible complexity to our planning.”

Brittany Ferries are doing everything they can to resume their services this summer but warn that passenger services will be altered to fit social distancing rules.
