Dorset Council is asking businesses that applied for a discretionary business grant to look out for an email advising whether their application has been successful.

The council has received 2,100 applications from businesses all over Dorset.

Discretionary grants are designed for businesses who were not eligible for previous funding which targeted small businesses in the Retail, Hospitality and Leisure sector.

Discretionary grants range from £1000 to £10,000 and the council hopes to award funding to just under 1,600 eligible businesses.

Cllr Gary Suttle, Portfolio Holder for Economic Growth and Skills said:

"I'm so pleased we are able to offer cash grants to nearly 1,600 businesses who have not been eligible for Government funding up to now.

"The discretionary grant fund is considerably lower than the previous funding which was based on small business rate relief, however, we hope it will assist those that need it most and give them the confidence of support in these very difficult and uncertain times."

Dorset Council is sending emails out to all applicants and is encouraging businesses to check email inboxes and junk files for the email.
