Environmental campaigners were at the Drax Estate yesterday as part of a series of protests throughout the county.

Extinction Rebellion are calling on the government to take more action to tackle climate change.

They delivered a letter to South Dorset MP Richard Drax.

Mr Drax was invited to meet protesters to receive the letter in person but he requested the letter be given to the security gatehouse and he would ensure he received it.

A similar letter was also delivered in person by the protesters to the office of Michael Tomlinson, MP for Mid Dorset and Poole, in Lytchett Matravers.

Letters were also emailed to Chris Loder MP for West Dorset, and Simon Hoare MP for North Dorset.

The protest was timed to coincide with the publication of the Committee on Climate Change annual report to parliament.

Extinction Rebellion spokesperson, Laura Baldwin said:

"In the letter delivered to MP's today, it calls on them to tell their constituents the truth about the severity of the climate and ecological emergency, and to call out the government's failings to meet their own target.

"A target that is dangerously late and could lead to the death of millions.

"The letter finishes asking MP's to show leadership and to act decisively and listen to expert advice, and to not let this opportunity that has risen due to the COVID-19 crisis go to waste."
