Passing nurse helps woman trapped after serious accident near Bridport

One person had to be cut free after a crash near Bridport yesterday. (29 June)

Two vehicles were involved in the accident on Burton Road at the junction with Marsh Barn which happened just after 5.30pm. 

The air ambulance was also dispatched.

Dorset Police say one woman was seriously injured and taken to Dorset County Hospital for treatment.

A passing nurse was able to help the person who was trapped before fire crews arrived to free them.

A spokesman for Bridport Fire Station said:

"Paramedics arrived and carried out their assessments and requested the attendance of the air ambulance.

"Crews got to work and removed the roof of one vehicle and extracted the casualty on a spinal board and left them in the expert care of the air ambulance and land ambulance paramedics."

Burton Road and the upper Westbay Road were both closed while police carried out an investigation. 

The road reopened at 9.45pm last night.
