A man's been arrested in connection with a fire at a block of flats in Dorchester yesterday morning.

It's alleged the fire was started deliberately.

Police officers were called to Bitter End at 4:07 am on Monday 29th June to reports of a fire at a block of flats.

A 42-year-old man from Dorchester was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

He has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

The surrounding roads were closed to allow emergency services to deal with the incident and reopened at around 7.30 am.

The building was also evacuated as a precaution. 

Detectives are appealing for any witnesses or anyone who may have information to assist the investigation to come forward.
