South Dorset MP Richard Drax is welcoming £64,000 of funding for two local armed forces charities.

The Veterans Hub in Weymouth will receive £25,000 and Future for Heroes in Bovington will get £39,000.

The grants were jointly announced by the Office for Veterans' Affairs and the Ministry of Defence.

It's part of a £6million funding package from the government, for over 100 charities who've been providing support for Veterans and their families during the coronavirus pandemic.

South Dorset MP Richard Drax said:

"t cannot be right that the men and women who fight for us are left to flounder when they face difficulties on leaving the services.

"We owe so much to our armed forces. They keep us safe in our hour of need, whether at war with an external aggressor or, as now, with a more insidious enemy."

"I am particularly delighted that the Veterans Hub in Weymouth, which I know well, has benefited from this funding. I would like to congratulate Andy Price who runs it, and thank him for all his hard work."

The charities, which stretch across the United Kingdom, provide support to veterans and serving personnel in areas ranging from employment to mental and physical health and wellbeing, to recovery and support for service families.

Mr Drax continued:

"Twenty thousand servicemen and women have been on standby throughout this crisis, building the Nightingale Hospitals, delivering PPE, driving ambulances, training medics and so much more. We owe them our thanks and our respect.

"When they leave the Armed Forces and become veterans, they have so much to offer this country, in terms of skills, professionalism and dedication. It is only right to help them to settle into civilian life as much as possible, where they will undoubtedly give back much more than they have ever received."
