Roof burns in Broadwindsor blaze

Firefighters were called to tackle a house fire in Broadwindsor.

Fire crews from 7 stations across Dorset were called to the property in West Street at 8:33 am yesterday morning. (20 July) 

The fire affected the roof and second floor of a mid-terraced house.

Firefighters battled to stop the blaze from spreading to two neighbouring houses.

The fire was out just before 11am and firefighters damped down to prevent further fires, and stripped back roof tiles.

Crews attended from Beaminster, Bridport (two), Charmouth, Lyme Regis and Dorchester, together with a support unit from Sherborne; Devon & Somerset FRS also mobilised appliances from Crewkerne, Chard and Yeovil, together with the aerial appliance from Yeovil.

An investigation has confirmed the fire was started accidentally by an electrical fault.

The occupiers got out safely and no one was injured.

Volunteers from the British Red Cross emergency response team based at Springbourne Fire Station also attended to support the people who lived in the house.
