Weymouth Beach is again officially one of the best in the country.

It's been awarded Quality Coast Status for 2012 by Keep Britain Tidy for high standards of Beach Management.

The Borough Council have been recognised for keeping the beach and bathing waters clean and looking good.

Weymouth Beach will host the Weymouth and Portland Live Site during this summer's games, with a 15,000 capacity venue with two giant screens showing the latest Olympic action.

Cllr Andy Blackwood, Brief Holder for Leisure and Tourism at Weymouth & Portland Borough Council, said: "It is fantastic that our beach has been recognised as being one of the best in the country. The beach plays a huge role in attracting visitors to Weymouth as well as being enjoyed by residents.

"It is especially great that we can showcase the award on the backdrop of the Olympic & Paralympic Games and hope it will boost tourism for years to come."

Weymouth Central Beach will host Weymouth & Portland Live Site during this summer's Games. The 15,000 capacity venue will be free of charge and contain two giant screens projecting all the latest Olympic action.

There will also be an interactive sporting arena next to the live site where people can try their hand at lots of different beach sports including cricket, football, volleyball, kayaking and sailing. For more information visit www.dorsetforyou.com/sailing2012

The beach has already hosted the International Kite Festival this year and will hold the Beach Motocross Championship in October.
